Answer: They all love a Trigger.
When I wrote about the idea of a trigger option on this site, it didn't elicit much of a response, but when I wrote about it on the Huffington Post, I got my fair share of unhappy commenters.
Here's the thing, though: While a lot of people might not like the idea of a trigger for the public option, some of the people who do are the ones who are actually making the policy decisions on health reform (e.g., the President). And then there's the moderate-to-left-leaning Republican Senator from Maine, Olympia Snowe. She loves the trigger option, and could go a long way in helping get reform through Congress. Here's what her version would look like.
So, to all the naysayers, might I suggest that you consider graciously accepting the compromise of a public option trigger, if indeed that is what we are presented.
